So here it is, the 12th instalment of my net worth report which therefore marks a full-year of publishing these figures. Let’s see what’s been going with that, and more generally, in Pursue FIRE world 😉
Before I get into the usual monthly figures I thought I’d quickly ramble about my month during May. It was certainly busy as always, this one especially so with two of my daughters birthdays and thus lots of party planning, cake making and present wrapping to be done. Everything went relatively smoothly – aside from the slime party, which we had at our house. The kids made their own slime from a recipe we found online and this involved using some food colouring to colour their slimes. You only need a drop or two, but one of my daughter’s friends was a little bit generous with her choice and went home at the end of the party with rather purple hands, despite our frantic efforts to wash them repeatedly before her mum collected her. It reminded me of Violet Beauregarde from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory 🙂
Aside from all of that, there were the usual MBA studies which are progressing well, so much so I’m now almost two-thirds of the way through my course, which ends in November. I also had a week or two where I was unwell. In fact, the whole family suffered at different points from a novo-virus which eventually culminated in me coming down with it the back-end of the month.
I’m certainly feeling a little drained at the moment and looking forward to a break at some point over the summer. I realised the other day that I’ve only had one or two days holiday so fat in 2019. These old batteries need a charging!
Before we get into some figures,
- Each Way Betting Report #10 – April: – It was back to winning ways on the horses and April transpired to be my best ever month, with profits of £2,800
- Monthly Net Worth Reports for March and April: I was a bit slow last month so folk got two updates for the price of one 🙂
- How to Correctly Predict The Price of Tennis Odds: With the summer tennis season in full swing, I look at a simple way to get ahead of expected price moves in-play when trading tennis matches and use these to find low-risk, high reward opportunities.
- Meet The Bettors: In a new series, I took time to chat with a fellow each way bettor to hear their story and share our thoughts on this excellent side hustle.
So I hope you enjoyed some of the content during May. Right…. onto some numbers!
Net Worth Snapshot
Let’s take a look at some numbers for May. As usual, I break down my current financial assets as at the end of the month and compare these to last month totals. I also show the value from 1-year ago:
Not the most eventful month. Total net worth crept a little higher to £581,606 – an increase of just +0.5% (+£2,615) for the month. However, excluding property, that translated into a slight fall of -1.8% to £339,468 (-£6,173).
Stock market returns took a dip during May and that clipped the value of my pension and investments, whereas my guestimate on property value (and it is largely a guess) implied a slight uptick on valuation. How do I track property value? I actually take the monthly Nationwide House Price Index and apply the percentage change for the month to my property. I then refer to the current Zoopla market value estimate and then take the median of these two values as my anticipated property price. It’s not an exact science but its consistently applied and I think a fairly decent proxy overall. Other than that, not a lot to report.
So how does this impact the longer-term picture? Well, as I mentioned above, this is the 12th post on my net worth so this is a good one to reflect on what has changed meaningfully from one year ago. Overall, my total net worth now stands 13.8% higher than a year ago (+£70,465) and, excluding property, that’s an overall increase of 19.4% (+£55,043). Overall that continues to be a positive trend and it will be good to once again reflect on the 1-year picture again soon.
I hope you are having a great month and I’ll see you again soon. With the blog fast approaching its 1-year birthday I’ll be thinking about its future direction in the weeks ahead.
Until next time!
